Manufacturing conversations

Review a design for manufacture early

The maker’s constraints can inform the concept before it becomes fixed.

Invite a practical discussion

Ask a qualified provider to review the developing design against the proposed manufacturing route. Explain which features are functional requirements and where the team can consider alternatives. The conversation should identify questions and evidence rather than promise that a preliminary model is production-ready. Record recommendations with their reasons and the revision being discussed.

Evaluate changes deliberately

A simpler process can be useful, but every proposed change should be checked against the product’s intended use. Do not accept a manufacturability improvement that silently removes an important requirement. Update controlled documents when a change is agreed and share the new revision consistently. Early collaboration works best when engineering intent and production experience inform the same decision.

A practical review checklist

  • Explain functional requirements.
  • Record provider recommendations.
  • Review changes against intended use.
