Keep the context attached
Record what was measured, on which item, using which method and under the relevant conditions. Use the project’s applicable quality procedures and qualified metrology support. Do not assume that a familiar instrument is suitable for every requirement. A result should be linked to the intended decision and the revision of the specification, not only to a photograph of the equipment.
Preserve limitations
Note uncertainty, method limitations and any departure from the planned process as required by the actual task. Store the record where reviewers can connect it to the part and design. If the requirement changes, reconsider whether the previous evidence still applies. Traceability here means being able to follow the information trail, not claiming compliance with a formal system that has not been established.
A practical review checklist
- Identify the inspected item.
- Link the specification revision.
- Keep limitations with results.
